Beyond the Hustle: Embracing Quality Over Quantity in Work & Life

Allow me to Reintroduce myself…

My name is Wayne Sealey. I am 29 years old. I am a Husband, father, Secondary School Teacher, and Web Designer.

It’s exactly in that order for that reason, something I’ve had to balance for the past 3 years.

What is most difficult is that I was raised in such a way that this 29-year-old version of me, strives for perfection, and hates to cut corners.

To be the best husband means I must dedicate quality time to my wife. To be the best father, I must dedicate quality time to my child. To be the best Teacher, I must dedicate quality time to my students. To be the best Web Designer, I must dedicate quality time to serve my clientele as best as I possibly can.

The repetitiveness and emphasis are not oversights. My days can be very repetitive at times, and most certainly, the better days are the ones where I focus on quality, rather than quantity.

Quality is the focus of this blog and of my rededicated energy.

I have stretched myself very thin in the past, trying to be many things to many people. I’ve gotten ill, I’ve gained considerable weight, and other unfortunate things.

Refocusing your energy is my message for you. It takes some time, meditation, and planning, and at times, it can be quite daunting to stare into yourself in that manner.

Here is my four-step step plan for refocusing my energy (and raising the quality of my service)

Step 1

I intend to work with fewer people this year. It’s not that I don’t want or need the money, that’s simply not my aim at this stage. I will advertise, but in a way that ensures that only the people who match my focus on quality, will be attracted.

 Step 2

I intend to strip down every part of my process and rebuild it to be more efficient and convenient for both clients and me. I’ve always looked for ways to do that, but it’s never been a direct focus of mine, in the few weeks I’ve managed to squeeze out some time to examine the processes, those parts have been much smoother. What will my business look like when I focus my energy on every part of my process?

Step 3

I intend to keep less of my thoughts and little expertise to myself and share as often as I can manage. I’ll be doing this through blogs, social media posts, and even a workshop. I’ve observed, in my relatively short time in this professional digital space, that there is a great void in technology literacy. I primarily deal in web design, but a website is simply a hub for your business. It needs a lot of other parts to sync with it to realize the full potential of a digital marketing strategy. We can’t get to that stage without ticking off the basics. A website is not a solution on its own, but a tool.

Step 4

I’ll do all of this and more by keeping myself accountable. I’ve signed up for my brother Kyle Hernandez’ Leap Year challenge from Creator Creator. He is using it to prompt people to start posting more, I’m using it to simply stop coasting, and push myself in every aspect.

Where are you focusing your energy on this year? Have you thought about which area of your life could use it the most? Have you written down a plan with small, easily actionable steps to achieve your milestones along the way? Did I list out how I’m going to approach it myself?
